Why is the pain worse during menstruation?
Prostaglandins, inflammatory lipid compounds, are released during menstruation. These compounds cause the uterus to contract, sometimes reducing blood flow to the sensitive endometrial tissues. The reduction in blood flow causes pain and cramps. The tissues without blood flow can die. With intense cramps, the dead tissues are squeezed out of the uterus and vagina. I looked for possible ways to encourage and help ease pain and inflammation for those that suffer from this debilitating disease.
